To “Gird up your loins” is a phrase that is common in the Bible. For instance, “Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee:…” (Jeremiah 1:17)
Do you know what this means literally? The phrase, arose from the prevailing fashion of the ancient Jews, in which men and women all wear flowing robes. To gird up the loins was to prepare for action, kind of tightening the belt today.
It was to adjust your address your dress in such a way that it will not constitute an impediment while carrying out a tasking or dangerous assignment.

So, brethren, “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ…” 1 Pet 1:13
